Position summary

The Technical Documentation Specialist establishes the user documentation for LSO Workplace and LSO Playout. Both products are coming soon, so initial work will support pilot readiness: explaining available workflows, documenting setup requirements and making limitations visible. Reporting to the Vice President, Software Products, you will work with both product directors, engineers and customer-facing colleagues to turn verified behavior into useful guidance.

The two products serve different users and require different forms of instruction. Workplace administrators need clear setup, permissions and workflow guidance; Playout operators need precise compatibility, output and recovery information. You will organize documentation around those tasks, test the instructions and keep content aligned with product versions. AI tools may assist drafting or editing, but technical claims, examples and procedures remain subject to direct verification and review.

Responsibilities

  • Define documentation structure and writing standards for each product's administrator, user and operator audiences.
  • Create quick-start guides, setup instructions and task-based articles using verified product behavior.
  • Work with engineers to document prerequisites, supported configurations, permissions and known limitations.
  • Test instructions in approved environments and record gaps that prevent a reader from completing the task.
  • Prepare release notes and update existing guidance when product behavior or support boundaries change.
  • Coordinate technical review and maintain clear ownership, version information and review status for published content.
  • Use pilot questions and support cases to identify missing explanations or difficult instructions.
  • Develop reusable screenshots, examples and troubleshooting formats with appropriate redaction and accessible presentation.

Required qualifications

  • Experience writing software documentation, technical training or closely related instructional content, typically three or more years.
  • Ability to explain a technical process clearly and organize content around a reader's task.
  • Experience verifying instructions through direct product use and review with engineers.
  • Comfort working with documentation tools, version control or structured content workflows.
  • Strong editorial judgment and care with screenshots, examples and sensitive customer information.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience documenting business software, broadcast systems or media workflows.
  • Familiarity with API, integration or hardware compatibility documentation.
  • Experience building a documentation collection for an early product or pilot program.

Measures of success

  • Pilot users can follow core setup and operating instructions successfully.
  • Documentation describes tested capability and clearly identifies current limitations.
  • Content reviews and version updates keep user guidance aligned with releases.

First 90 days

Audit available product concepts, prototypes and internal notes with both directors. Define the initial documentation structure and select the highest-priority pilot tasks. Write and test the first setup and task guides, establish engineering review and release-update routines, and use support rehearsals or approved pilot feedback to revise confusing instructions before wider distribution.

Compensation

Proposed annual base salary of $75,000–$100,000 USD. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, qualifications and the agreed scope of the position, subject to approval. This range covers base pay only; any incentive compensation or benefits would be specified separately in an employment offer.

What to include in your application

Share nonconfidential writing samples that demonstrate task-based technical instruction. Explain how you verified accuracy, handled product changes and used feedback to improve the documentation.
