Position summary
The Senior QA Automation Engineer establishes how LSO Workplace and LSO Playout are verified before customers rely on them. Reporting to the Vice President, Software Products, you will work with both product directors to identify consequential failures and build a practical test strategy. The role combines software test automation with exploratory testing and a clear, independent account of release readiness.
You will cover workplace permissions and customer separation, scheduling and media workflows, local/cloud interaction, and the recovery paths that ordinary demonstrations miss. Engineers remain responsible for the quality of their changes; your role gives the whole team dependable test infrastructure, cross-system coverage and evidence that supports release decisions. AI tools can help generate and investigate tests, but meaningful assertions and expected outcomes must be independently checked.
Responsibilities
- Create a risk-based test strategy for both products with the directors, identifying the workflows and failures that deserve the most attention.
- Build maintainable API, interface and integration tests, with controlled test data and useful failure diagnostics.
- Verify customer isolation, permissions, data handling and critical administrative workflows in Workplace.
- Test schedule transitions, timing, media failures, restart behavior and local/cloud disconnection in Playout.
- Coordinate hardware-in-the-loop and multi-output checks with the Playout team, using a documented compatibility matrix.
- Establish repeatable evaluations for AI-assisted features, including incorrect suggestions, unsupported claims and actions requiring approval.
- Integrate automated checks into development and release workflows, and address flaky tests that undermine confidence.
- Use AI tools to accelerate test exploration and debugging while reviewing assertions, fixtures and coverage independently.
- Conduct exploratory, accessibility and recovery testing, documenting reproducible defects and verifying fixes.
- Report unresolved defects and readiness evidence directly to the VP and directors, with a clear route to block or escalate a release concern.
Required qualifications
- Experience in software quality engineering, typically five or more years, including building and maintaining automated tests.
- Programming ability in a language used for test automation and experience with API and browser-level testing.
- Strong investigation skills and the ability to produce concise, reproducible defect reports.
- Experience testing distributed applications, permissions, asynchronous processes and failure recovery.
- Practical use of AI development tools with the ability to identify weak or misleading generated tests.
- Clear communication and a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience testing desktop applications, media processing or professional video hardware.
- Experience with load testing, accessibility checks or evaluation of AI-assisted features.
- Experience establishing a quality program in a small product team.
Measures of success
- Critical user workflows and failure paths have reliable, repeatable checks.
- Defects are actionable, test failures are understood and flaky checks are reduced.
- Each release has a clear account of completed verification and outstanding risk.
- Problems found in pilots or incidents lead to effective regression coverage.
First 90 days
Review the proposed architectures and first-release workflows with both directors. Establish test environments and a prioritized coverage plan, automate the first critical paths, and build an initial recovery and permissions test suite. Define how release evidence is presented and run a rehearsal review against an early product increment.
Compensation
Proposed annual base salary of $115,000–$155,000 USD. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, qualifications and the agreed scope of the position, subject to approval. This range covers base pay only; any incentive compensation or benefits would be specified separately in an employment offer.
What to include in your application
Describe a test system you built and a consequential defect your investigation uncovered. Explain how you would evaluate AI-generated tests, using nonconfidential examples.
