Position summary

The Senior Cloud Platform & Reliability Engineer builds the shared operating foundation for LSO Workplace and LSO Playout. Reporting to the Vice President, Software Products, you will collaborate with both directors on cloud architecture, deployment pipelines, monitoring and incident readiness. The objective is a service the team can deploy, understand and recover with confidence, while retaining clear ownership of each product's application logic.

You will help turn development prototypes into supportable services through environment automation, access controls, backups, observability and capacity planning. The role includes practical platform security and coordination of specialist reviews where needed. You will use AI tools to assist engineering while maintaining human approval and verification for infrastructure changes. Support coverage and any on-call arrangements will be established with the team during hiring and operational planning.

Responsibilities

  • Design and automate development, test and production environments with appropriate separation and reproducible configuration.
  • Build deployment pipelines with reviewed changes, dependency checks, release traceability and tested rollback paths.
  • Implement identity, access, secret management and least-privilege controls for infrastructure and service-to-service communication.
  • Establish logs, metrics, alerts and operational dashboards that reveal customer impact and support effective diagnosis.
  • Define service objectives and capacity assumptions with the directors, then validate them through representative load and recovery tests.
  • Implement backups, restoration procedures and disaster-recovery exercises, documenting ownership and expected recovery behavior.
  • Monitor cloud, storage, streaming and AI service costs, providing forecasts and practical options for controlling unit costs.
  • Support reliable communication between Playout's local software and cloud services, working with its engineers on authentication and reconnection behavior.
  • Review AI-generated infrastructure changes before execution and maintain clear controls over credentials, customer data and production access.
  • Prepare operational runbooks and incident procedures, coordinate security reviews with the directors and qualified specialists, and improve the platform after incidents.

Required qualifications

  • Experience building and operating cloud services, typically five or more years, including responsibility for production reliability.
  • Practical skill in infrastructure automation, deployment pipelines, networking, identity and secret management.
  • Experience with monitoring, incident investigation, backup restoration and failure recovery.
  • Ability to write and review software or automation scripts and assess AI-generated infrastructure or operational changes.
  • Experience managing cloud cost and capacity, including explaining trade-offs to product and business stakeholders.
  • Clear documentation and communication skills; a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with multi-tenant software, streaming services or applications that coordinate cloud and local components.
  • Experience supporting security assessments and resolving platform vulnerabilities.
  • Experience establishing an early-stage service's operating model and realistic support coverage.

Measures of success

  • Environments and deployments are reproducible, access is controlled and recovery paths are demonstrated.
  • Monitoring identifies customer-impacting issues with actionable alerts and clear ownership.
  • Capacity and cost assumptions are measured and visible to product leadership.
  • The team can respond to incidents using tested procedures and learns from failures.

First 90 days

Review both product architectures and select the smallest practical shared operating foundation with the directors. Automate initial environments and deployments, introduce access and secret controls, and instrument an early service. Demonstrate backup restoration and rollback, establish an initial cost baseline and agree the operating-readiness checklist and support plan with the VP.

Compensation

Proposed annual base salary of $145,000–$190,000 USD. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, qualifications and the agreed scope of the position, subject to approval. This range covers base pay only; any incentive compensation or benefits would be specified separately in an employment offer.

What to include in your application

Describe a service you operated, a recovery or incident you handled, and an improvement you made to deployment or cost. Explain how you use AI tools without exposing secrets or applying unreviewed production changes.
