Position summary

The Senior Accountant will take responsibility for assigned parts of the general ledger and monthly close. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will turn transaction records into substantiated balances and clear financial schedules. You will work across business activities, including advertising, media operations and developing software products, while applying the accounting policies approved by Finance.

The role suits someone who enjoys finding the cause of a discrepancy and fixing the process that produced it. You will work with purchasing, payroll and commercial colleagues to collect evidence, correct coding and keep recurring entries dependable. Your work will give the Controller confidence that important balances have received a thoughtful review.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and reconcile assigned balance-sheet accounts, recording open items and resolution owners.
  • Prepare accruals, prepayments and other recurring journals with appropriate support and approval.
  • Maintain fixed-asset schedules and verify additions, disposals and depreciation against approved policies.
  • Review revenue and expense coding, escalating unusual transactions for Controller assessment.
  • Reconcile bank activity and investigate differences with payment, billing and payroll colleagues.
  • Assemble close schedules and explain period-to-period movements in assigned accounts.
  • Support external adviser requests with organized records and reconciled supporting schedules.
  • Improve recurring accounting procedures and document corrections that reduce preventable close errors.

Required qualifications

  • Professional accounting experience, typically four or more years, including month-end close work.
  • Ability to prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules independently.
  • Working knowledge of accrual accounting and common financial statement relationships.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and experience working within an accounting system.
  • Careful handling of confidential records and an accounting degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with multiple entities, departments or project-based financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with advertising, licensing, software subscriptions or service revenue accounting.
  • Progress toward a professional accounting qualification or experience supporting financial reviews.

Measures of success

  • Assigned accounts are reconciled with clear supporting evidence by the close deadline.
  • Outstanding reconciling items have documented owners and timely resolution.
  • Recurring entries are accurate, approved and reproducible by another team member.
  • Accounting questions are identified early enough for appropriate review.

First 90 days

Learn the chart of accounts, source systems and close timetable. Take ownership of an agreed group of reconciliations, review historical open items and confirm the supporting evidence required by the Controller. Complete the next close cycles, resolve priority discrepancies and document at least one recurring process improvement with a clear handoff procedure.

Compensation

Proposed annual base salary of $80,000–$110,000 USD. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, qualifications and the agreed scope of the position, subject to approval. This range covers base pay only; any incentive compensation or benefits would be specified separately in an employment offer.

What to include in your application

Describe a difficult reconciliation or accounting discrepancy you resolved. Explain the evidence you used, the correction made and how you prevented the issue from recurring.
