Content standards
LSO Media Group seeks to publish information that is accurate, fairly presented, and supported by appropriate sourcing. Producers and editors should verify material facts, quotations, names, dates, graphics, and attribution in proportion to the sensitivity and potential impact of the material.
News, commentary, entertainment, satire, promotional content, and paid material should be presented in a way that gives audiences reasonable context about what they are seeing.
Anonymous sourcing should be used only when justified by the public value of the information and the source’s need for protection.
Serious allegations should receive heightened verification and, where practical, a meaningful opportunity for response before publication.
Quotations should not be edited in a way that materially changes their meaning.
Extra care applies to minors, private individuals, confidential sources, personal information, traumatic events, and safety risks.
Material financial, personal, political, or organizational relationships that could reasonably affect audience understanding should be disclosed or managed. Opinions belong to the identified speaker or contributor unless LSO expressly adopts them as an organizational position.
Good-faith correction requests are reviewed on the evidence. A useful request identifies the content or URL, the disputed statement, the reason it is inaccurate or misleading, and any supporting documentation.
Material factual errors should be corrected as promptly and transparently as circumstances allow. Depending on severity, the record may receive a correction, clarification, editor’s note, updated caption, or retraction. Minor spelling, formatting, or typographical changes may be corrected without a separate note when meaning is unaffected.
A correction or clarification improves the record and does not, by itself, constitute an admission of legal liability. Accurate archival material is not removed solely because it is unfavorable.
