Position summary
The Director of Product & Engineering, LSO Workplace owns the product's day-to-day development from discovery through pilot delivery and operation. Reporting to the Vice President, Software Products, you will lead four engineers and an Implementation Consultant, and work with shared design, quality assurance and cloud specialists. The product is intended to bring workplace management, insights and employee engagement together for organizations whose particular needs are often underserved by broad software suites.
This is a hands-on development leadership role. You will define the initial product scope, make architecture decisions, review code and help solve difficult implementation problems. AI tools should shorten the path from a well-understood need to tested software. You will remain responsible for the design, security, accessibility and maintainability of the result, with particular care for employee information and access between customer organizations.
Responsibilities
- Lead discovery with prospective customers to identify priority workflows, administrative needs and the smallest useful first release.
- Own the product backlog, architecture and delivery plan, setting clear acceptance criteria and making implementation trade-offs visible.
- Manage and coach the Workplace engineers, reviewing designs and code and contributing directly where the team needs technical leadership.
- Design a multi-organization service with appropriate permissions, tenant isolation, audit records, data retention and administrative controls.
- Guide the integration strategy for identity, calendars, workplace services and possible occupancy data, with documented permissions and failure behavior.
- Evaluate where AI assistance or analytics improves a customer workflow; require meaningful evaluation, clear limitations and user control over consequential actions.
- Establish practical AI-assisted engineering workflows with reviewed changes, reproducible tests, protected credentials and approved data handling.
- Coordinate design research, automated quality checks and deployment readiness with the shared team, agreeing capacity with the VP.
- Own technical release recommendations and incident follow-up for Workplace, including the ability to pause a release when evidence shows a material problem.
- Prepare onboarding and support documentation, participate in pilots and use feedback to revise priorities with the VP.
Required qualifications
- Experience shipping and maintaining business software, typically seven or more years, including technical leadership or management of a development team.
- Strong practical ability in modern web applications, APIs, relational data, access control and cloud deployment.
- Experience translating customer discovery into product requirements and a sequence of usable releases.
- Demonstrated use of AI coding tools with independent code review, debugging and testing of their output.
- Experience designing multi-tenant applications and working with sensitive business or employee data.
- Clear communication and a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with workplace, scheduling, facilities, collaboration or employee-service software.
- Experience integrating external identity or calendar systems and building usable administrative interfaces.
- Experience evaluating AI-assisted workflows or interpreting operational analytics for nontechnical users.
Measures of success
- The first product scope addresses demonstrated customer needs and avoids unnecessary implementation complexity.
- The team delivers usable increments with reviewed code, documented architecture and reliable automated checks.
- Customer organizations and employee information remain appropriately separated and controlled.
- Pilot users can complete priority tasks and their feedback leads to measurable improvements.
First 90 days
Interview prospective users, review existing concepts and select the initial workflows with the VP. Establish an architecture and permission model, recruit or onboard the core team, and deliver a tested vertical slice of a priority workflow. Agree pilot criteria, document the main security and usability risks, and prepare the next development milestones with shared-team support.
Compensation
Proposed annual base salary of $160,000–$210,000 USD. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, qualifications and the agreed scope of the position, subject to approval. This range covers base pay only; any incentive compensation or benefits would be specified separately in an employment offer.
What to include in your application
Share a nonconfidential example of a business application you led, including your architecture and management responsibilities. Explain how AI tools helped development and how you checked their output.
