Position summary
The Broadcast Systems Engineer will support the technical systems used to deliver LSO Media Group programming through approved broadcast and related media workflows. Reporting to the Director of Content Distribution, you will assess system health, diagnose signal and equipment problems, document configurations and carry out controlled changes. The role will be shaped around verified operating requirements and the equipment or service environments the company uses.
You will apply practical engineering judgment to continuity, compatibility and maintainability. Work may include video and audio signal paths, playout interfaces, encoding, routing and monitoring, in coordination with appropriate network or service owners. You will plan changes so their effects can be tested and reversed, maintain clear technical records and help operators recover from common faults. Feedback relevant to the forthcoming LSO Playout product will be documented through the product team rather than treated as a commitment to deploy unfinished software.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an inventory of supported broadcast systems, configurations, signal paths and technical dependencies.
- Diagnose video, audio, timing and control problems using a structured process and appropriate measurement tools.
- Plan and perform approved maintenance or configuration changes with documented testing and recovery steps.
- Validate media and signal compatibility at system boundaries, including output formats, audio routing and caption carriage where applicable.
- Develop monitoring and fault-isolation procedures with operators so service problems can be identified and escalated quickly.
- Coordinate vendor support and repairs, supplying useful evidence and tracking unresolved technical issues.
- Review continuity risks, spare or replacement requirements and recovery options with the distribution director.
- Document operating guidance and contribute practical integration feedback to technology evaluations or LSO Playout discovery.
Required qualifications
- At least four years of broadcast engineering, professional video systems or comparable technical operations experience.
- Working knowledge of video and audio signal flow, digital formats, synchronization and monitoring.
- Experience troubleshooting equipment, software and interconnection issues across a media delivery workflow.
- Ability to document systems and perform controlled changes with clear testing and rollback procedures.
- Clear communication with operators and vendors; relevant technical education or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with SDI and IP media workflows, playout systems or professional video output devices.
- Experience integrating broadcast delivery with streaming or file-based distribution.
- Experience designing practical redundancy, recovery exercises or equipment lifecycle plans.
Measures of success
- Supported systems have current documentation and clear technical ownership.
- Faults are diagnosed using evidence and resolved without unnecessary disruption.
- Maintenance and changes are tested, recorded and recoverable.
- Operators have practical procedures for identifying and responding to common technical failures.
First 90 days
During the first 90 days, inspect the supported system environment, validate available diagrams and identify critical dependencies. Review recent faults and prioritize documentation or maintenance gaps with the distribution director. Complete a controlled change or recovery exercise, establish a technical issue register and prepare a practical maintenance plan. Share any relevant operator requirements with the LSO Playout team through the agreed review process.
Compensation
Proposed annual base salary of $90,000–$125,000 USD. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, qualifications and the agreed scope of the position, subject to approval. This range covers base pay only; any incentive compensation or benefits would be specified separately in an employment offer.
What to include in your application
Describe a nonconfidential broadcast or professional media system you supported. Explain a fault you diagnosed, the measurements or evidence used and how you validated the repair or change.
